Is Golf Really Mental?

The longer I play this game, the more I come to the realization that 90% of the golf game is mental. If you go back and trace the blow up holes in your round, I’ll bet you can quickly notice that after one bad shot, you most likely hit another one. Why is that? It’s between your ears! It’s mental! But why do we do it?

Or…do you have a hole on your home course that you hit the same mistake EVERY TIME? I know I do. Ugh…that’s enough to make you want to quit the game isn’t it? That’s a mental issue not a physical one. If you’ve got trouble left and you always hook it or pull it left off the tee, you have a mental block you can’t overcome on that hole. With the proper visualization, you can easily overcome this mental block and find yourself in the middle of the fairway, rather than OB and hitting 3 off the tee.

How about on the green? How many times have you made a putting stroke, but with no confidence, and the ball NEVER goes in? Man…this is another very common occurrence for most of us amateur (hacker) golfers. Just think how many strokes you lose just on the green every round.

Again, with the right mental approach, you can make more of those putts, especially the short ones, which can lower your score in a hurry.
