Dave Cushion – Club Champion Golfer

The ability to hit chip shots close to the pin is something most everyone can develop with the right technique and a little practice.

Since it requires almost no power… men, women, seniors, and even youngsters can learn how to chip it close. And it’s a great feeling to be able to save par with a deftly played chip shot.

But as I’ve observed many golfers hitting chip shots, there is one thing that most poor chippers do NOT do.

And that is they simply don’t play the ball back far enough in their stance. And when we discuss this, many of them actually think they are playing it back, when, in fact, it is still off their front foot.

This is frequently because they have correctly placed their feet fairly close together. But, then they lose the perspective of their ball placement.

The reason that you need to move the ball back in your stance is to ensure a clean hit on the chip.

If the ball is too far forward, you greatly increase the chance of either a skulled chip or a stubbed chip where the ball goes only a couple of feet.

The worst thing that you can do is hit a fat chip because a fat chip will either leave you the same shot over… or you will have a very long putt.

So, without doing anything else, just try moving the ball back in your stance to your back foot. I frequently chip with the ball played of the outside of my back foot. This way I know I’ll make crisp contact and I can concentrate on getting the pace of the chip right.

This is a simple tip and it may be one that you have heard before. But, it is easy to start to gradually move the ball forward in your stance without even realizing it.

Next time out to the course, check your ball position for your chip shots and practice a few with the ball played well back in your stance.

You’ll likely see instant improvement in your golf chipping.

I’d like to welcome you and thank you for stopping by my new Free Golf Tips blog. I’m excited to share simple online tips, drills, videos, resources and much more to help you quickly add power and distance to not only your drives, but every club in your bag.

I’ll be covering everything from putting, irons, driver, bunkers, golf swing technique for consistency and power; even as specific as clubface, as well as scoring, fitness and injuries; and maybe even some golf news for fun! You’ll also see some FREE Golf Video Tips that will help beginner golfers too!

We’ll also be building out a BIG section on Mental Golf. This, in my humble opinion, is 90% of the game, just ask Tiger Woods.

Having been online for 10 years helping golfers improve their golf swings, this is a chance to “give back” and help you for FREE. On occasion I will mention a resource that I feel will help you achieve longer drivers faster, but take my word for it, I will ONLY recommend resources I have thoroughly researched and tested myself, so consider me your research guy, so you don’t have to waist your valuable time surfing the net to learn about them, and worse yet, risk wasting your hard-earned money.
